Physical therapy

In the field of physical therapy, manual (physical) therapy is a well-known specialized form of physical treatment mostly delivered with the hands as opposed to a device.
Manual therapy-type techniques combine skilled movements from the field of chiropractic and physical therapy and are applied by trained therapists and clinicians in order to remove pain and restore mobility in the musculoskeletal system. By putting pressure on muscle tissue and manipulating joints, manual therapy techniques aim to restore mobility to stiff and restricted joints, reduce muscle tension, decrease pain, and joint dysfunction as well as increase flexibility.

Besides manual techniques manual therapy is a form of physical treatment that can also involve therapeutic exercise as a component. Focusing on building strength, endurance and coordination of related muscle groups, manual therapy can include stretching exercises, connective tissue massage and energy techniques in order to improve the patients’ well-being.
